Imagine seeking shelter from the horrors of domestic abuse.
If you are fortunate enough there is a shelter like Sojourner
Center to seek help. If you are lucky they have bed space
open for you and your children. Unfortunately, there is not
always space. Even though Sojourner Center of Phoenix is the
nation’s largest domestic violence shelter – there are less
than 200 beds available.
Most women escape their violent situations and abuser with
an average of three children. If there is space, a family
seeking shelter often flees with only the clothes on their
back. This means they leave behind everything including clothes
and underwear. While Sojourner Center can provide used clothes,
undergarments are another story.
That’s where Fresh Foundations comes in! Fresh Foundations
rallies the community together to donate packages of new underwear,
bras, socks and undershirts. These vital garments are donated
to the Sojourner Center clothes closet and distributed to the
nearly 3,000 women and children they serve annually. The annual
Panty Party is a summer event that gathers undergarments for
the families at Sojourner Center and raises the awareness about
domestic violence in our community.
